NAWOJ APPLAUDS FG ON 2ND NIGER BRIDGE PROJECT, SAYS COMPLETION IS NEAR

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), South East Zone, has applauded the Federal Government for keeping to its promise to complete the 2nd Niger Bridge.
The Vice President of NAWOJ, South East Zone, Comrade Stella Igboka, stated this when she led some women journalists on a tour of the project, which was said to have reached almost 83% completion stage.
Comrade Igboka described the 2nd Niger Bridge project as a dream come true.
She noted that when the facility would be put in use, it would not only ease the traffic gridlock on the Onitsha Bridgehead axis but would also attract socio- economic development to the South East zone of the country.
The Federal Controller of Works, Mr. Adeyemo Ajani, who received the women journalists at the site, pointed out that the project was about eighty-three percent completed and would be inuagurated by President Muhammadu Buhari within the fourth quarter of 2022.
Mr. Ajani explained that the project was divided into two phases, the main phase and the second phase.
On the roads linking the bridge, he said the contractor had covered about 8km of the 10.3km length.
He assured the people of the South East that the bridge would be inaugurated in October 2022,
He explained that the delay in executing the project was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and Endsars protests.
The Health and Safety Manager of the project, Mr. Tim Osagie,
described the project as challenging but successful one, which had taken so much resilience to get this far.
Mr. Osagie assured tthe people that by April, the joints of the bridge would had been achieved before starting the base course and asphalts.
Women journalists from both print and electronic media as well as heads of stations were all represented in the tour.
