FOOD SUFFICIENCY: NALDA TRAINS ABOUT 200 IMO YOUTHS ON AGRIC PRODUCTION

The Federal Government says it has trained about two hundred men and women in agricultural production in Imo State to ensure food sufficiency.

President Muhammadu Buhari stated this in a message to the inauguration of rehabilitated and constructed farm houses at Acharaubo Integrated Farm Estate in Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.

President Buhari represented by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, explained that the farm would create employment, reduce youth restivness and criminality.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Natural Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), Prince Paul Ikonne, said the mandate of the state was completely in line with the desire of the President to take Nigeria to the next level of sustainability and food security.

He said imo State had been positioned to be part of every single program that NALDA would introduce.

Prince Ikonne said that the community where the project is sited would make huge sales due to expected influx of marketers during production and expressed the hope that the state and neighbouring states would benefit from it.

The State Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr. Anthony Mbgeahuruike, explained that the farm currently has six poultry houses with eighteen pens that contain about eleven thousand birds, three brooding houses, three goateries with one hundred and ninety-two goats and three piggeries with one hundred and seven pigs.

Guests who came for the event, including the member representing Okigwe zone at the Senate, Mr. Frank Ibezim, inspected the facilities.
