INEC SET TO CONDUCT FEB 26 HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY BYE ELECTION IN IMO
REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has recruited and trained about eight hundred ad-hoc staff to ensure smooth conduct of the Saturday February 26, 2022 bye-election for Ngor-Okpala constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the State, Professor Francis Ezeonu, made this known in Owerri while briefing journalists on the level of preparedness of the Commission towards the exercise.
He explained that eleven political parties had fielded candidates for the election, which would take place in one hundred and ninety-three voting points.
Professor Ezeonu noted that Ngor-Okpala had a total of ninety-four thousand and sixty registered voters.
The REC noted that all the materials needed for the election were already on ground.
He said only persons duly accredited with the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) would be allowed to cast their votes and urged prospective voters to use the polling stations where they voted in the last general election.
Professor Ezeonu stated that the INEC situation room would be activated during the election to receive reports and complaints while giving assurance that measures had been taken to ensure security during and after the election.
Ngor-Okpala constituency seat in the IMO State House of Assembly was declared vacant by the Speaker, Mr. Kennedy Ibe, following an allegation that the former member representing the area had abandoned his job for more than one year.
