The Police Command in Enugu State has assured residents of the state of collaboration with sister security agencies to ensure a peaceful conduct of the February 23, 2022 Local Government election in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abubakar Lawal gave the assurance in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Daniel Ndukwe Ekea.

The statement noted the command “has ordered the maximum deployment of personnel and other policing resources of the Command to ensure the security and peaceful conduct of the elections.

“This is in addition to his reassuring commitment to collaborate with other security agencies, local security outfits and stakeholders to provide adequate security during the period of the elections and beyond.”

The statement also warned politicians and their supporters against involvement in electoral malpractices, violence and other acts that could affect the conduct of the council poll.

“Consequently, the Commissioner has cautioned political parties, their flag bearers and supporters against conducting themselves in manners capable of making the peaceful and smooth conduct of the elections impossible; while warning that acts of electoral malpractice and violence of any kind would not be tolerated before, during and after the elections,” the statement warned.

It encourages the electorate to use the opportunity of public holiday and restriction of movement on the election day to exercise their franchise without fear of intimidation or harassment.

The February 23, 2022 local government election in Enugu State will hold on a weekday, precisely on Wednesday, unlike in other years where the election was held on Saturday.
