NSCDC BOSS BLAMES RISING CRIME ON UNEMPLOYMENT, COMMENDS HIS MEN FOR THEIR GALLANTRY

The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) Enugu State Command, Mr. Afrika Valentine Ezenyimulu, has reiterated the commitment of the command to the security of law abiding citizens.

The NSCDC Commandant equally urged government at all levels and wealthy individuals to do more to create jobs for youths roaming the streets to stem criminality in the region.

Mr. Ezenyimulu, who spoke with Radio Nigeria on operations of the command during the yuletide, commended the rank and file of the command for their sacrifices and dedication to duty in 2021.

“In 2021, they were outstanding in bearing arms as well as facing criminals, which led to the general success of the command; even Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi also attested to their hard work and dedication in our security meeting late last year.

“As a command, we are also proud of them and there is no better time to say thank you than now, especially as the Commandant-General had given us the go ahead to do just that.

“Our just concluded statewide yuletide operation was seamless, smooth and successful due to their dedication, and resilience to weather all odds that came their way,” he said.

On the Command’s motivation celebration of its rank and file, the Commandant said that the rank and file of the command had done creditably well in 2021 and had remained a source of pride to the command.

He charged the personnel to remain focused while in the line of duty.

Mr. Ezenyimulu, appealed to residents of the state to assist the command with useful information that would aid their efforts to combat crimes, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.

Mr. Ezenyimulu, commended the Commandant-General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for his vision to take the corps to greater height and making it the best security formation in the country.

The Commandant appealed to the government at all levels to emphasis on building more industries; while wealthy individuals and communities can build cottage industries to complement government efforts to create jobs for teaming unemployed youths.

“An idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Idleness has led promising youths being lured into vices and criminality as well as the latest being youths engaging in intake of hard drugs.

“If there is adequate employment for virtually all youths, I sincerely believe that crime will be reduced to the barest minimum and almost all our youths will be useful to themselves, families and communities,” he stated
Reacting, one of the officers, Mrs. Blessing Edith Sylvester, commended the Commandant-General and the state Commandant for celebrating them, stressing that it would go a long way to motivate them and showed that their efforts were appreciated by the corps.
