NEW YEAR INFERNO DESTROYS NNEWI MARKET

Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed by fire at Okpuno-Egbu Market, Umudim Nnewi, Anambra State.

The fire incident, which started at about 10:30pm last Saturday, took the intervention of the Anambra State Fire Service to put it under control.

A statement by the State Fire Chief, Dr. Martin Agbili, confirms that fire fighters from Nnewi and Awka were on ground to ensure the fire did not engulf the entire market as they controlled it till about 2:30am on Sunday.

The statement notes that investigation has commenced to ascertain the cause of the New Year market fire.

The statement commends efforts of the people and security agencies for their assistance during the fire fighting operation.

It, however, advises members of the public to always know that fire kills but could be prevented by being careful and taking precautionary measures.
