Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has stressed the need for Nigerians to show gratitude to the men of the Armed Forces for dedicating their lives to the service of the country.
Governor Willie Obiano gave the advice at a Mass held at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral Awka to mark the 2022 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day, where he took the first lesson.
Governor Obiano, while saying that the Armed Forces, including the dead, retired and serving operatives, had paid a great sacrifice for the country at large, emphasized on the need for the people to always show them love.
The Governor used the occasion to appreciate security agents in the state for their support and zeal in ensuring reasonable level of peace in the area.
Earlier in a homily, the Catholic Bishop of Awka, the Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, said that members of the Armed Forces were on a mission as they were trained, formed and sent out to secure the society.
The Most Reverend Ezeokafor noted that the duty of security was a serious responsibility that required serious attention.
Bishop Ezeokafor urged government at all levels and citizens to give security agents the necessary support to make them happy and their work successful.
Most Reverend Ezeokafor, who reminded the Armed Forces that they served the public, advised them be friendly, disposed, polite while handling members of the public, frowning that some of them often treated people with disrespect.
The Catholic Bishop of Awka, however, commended the recent peaceful conduct of gubernatorial election in the state despite the level of tension it generated.
The Chairman Nigeria Legion Anambra State Council, Major General Benedict Agbogu (Retd), who said that the armed forces were trained to protect lives and property of the people, urged the Federal Government to always listen to the plight of security personnel who are in the battle line of peace keeping.
The event was attended by Military officers and some top government functionaries, including the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu; the Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Anyachebelu; the Deputy Governor-elect, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim; and the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Pascal Agbodike.
