YULTIDE SECURITY: FRSC TO USE BODY CAMERAS IN ANAMBRA
REPORTER: ONYINYE CHIJIOBI
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it will experiment the use of body cameras during the 2021 Christmas special patrol.
The Sector Commander, FRSC in Anambra State, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, who made this known in a news briefing in Awka, said that the body camera is an evidence based gadget, that would help capture what transpires between the motorists and FRSC personnel on patrol.
Mr. Irelewuyi explained that Anambra was among the states where the new gadgets would be deployed in its pilot phase.
According to the sector Commander, the technology would also help reduce corrupt tendencies among its personnel.
He noted that since he assumed duty in the state seven months ago, the wave of insecurity was among the challenges, which had hampered the operations of the corps.
Mr. Irelewuyi, however, expressed joy that during the period, the command collaborated with other security agencies to conduct and ensure successful as well as peaceful gubernatorial election.
He said that between May and November 2021, the command arrested 5,503 offenders with 6,687 offences of which 13 offenders were prosecuted and jailed within the period.
Mr. Irelewuyi assured the people that the Sector Command was fully prepared to tackle emerging traffic challenges during the festive season.
According to the FRSC boss, the critical flashpoints in Onitsha, Ihiala, Awka, Umunze, Amansea, Nnobi junction, Oye-Agu Junction, Abagana and others would be seriously manned.
While commending the support from the State Government, the Sector Commander appealed to all road users to maintain safe speed and obey all traffic rule and regulations.
Mr. Irelewuyi promised that the corps would work tirelessly to ensure that traffic situation during the yuletide would not be compromised.
