US GOVERNMENT SEEK STRONGER TIE WITH ABIA STATE

The United States Ambassador to Nigeria Mr. Stuart Symington has called for the creation of increased opportunities for young people to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the country. Mr. Symington made the call during a courtesy call on Governor OkezieIkpeazu of Abia State at Government House Umuahia.

He explained that the United States had profound interest in the success of the nation, and observed that the ties between both countries had remained strong.  Governor Ikpeazu said the state government would take advantage of the enormous benefits of the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act, AGOA, to boost the State economy, noting that Small Medium Enterprises were a strong hold of the State economy.

He noted that the platform created for indigenes of the state in the diaspora to contribute to the development of the health sector, was already yielding results in medical outreach and transformation of secondary and tertiary health facilities. The Governor expressed the hope that the relationship between Abia State and the United States would continue to flourish.
