GOV. UMAHI ORDERS ARREST OF CHAIRMAN IKWO LGA

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has ordered the Commissioner of Police and the Director Department of State Security Service in the area to fish out those behind the alleged abduction and torture of the Coordinator of Ikwo South Development Centre, Mr. Marvin Amiara.

Chief Umahi gave the order when he visited the victim at Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki where he is receiving medical attention. The Coordinator was beaten and stripped naked by his abductors before being taken away. The alleged abduction occurred in the day time at Ukwuachi Playground in Amagu-Ikwo in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state during a stakeholders meeting.

The Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Mr. John Nnabo explained that the Coordinator was abducted by a gang of armed men who stormed the venue of the meeting. Radio Nigeria gathered that the abductors took the Coordinator to Eke Amagu market where they allegedly forced him into a coffin before carrying him off to an unknown destination where he was tortured till he lost consciousness.

Governor Umahi explained that he received information about the abduction when he was hosting the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who was in the state for a wedding ceremony. He commended security agencies for the rescue of the victim and directed the Police to take into custody the Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area for statement while his Vice should also be invited to give evidence.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mrs. Loveth Odah did not achieve the desired result.
