SOUTH EAST GOVERNORS DEMAND PROTECTION OF IGBOS IN THE NORTH

imagesSouth East Governors Forum has called on security organizations and other relevant agencies in the country to guarantee and defend the lives and property of Igbos residing in Northern Nigeria against all forms of threat. The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi made the call at a Press Conference in response to the quit threat issued by a coalition of Arewa Youths against Igbos residing in Northern part of the country.

Governor Umahi explained that the Forum had reflected on the implication of the threat on the status of Nigeria and called on serious minded patriots in North to condemn the action of the youth and ensure they embraced peace.

“We must call the religious leaders in the northern Nigeria, the leadership of other socio-cultural groups in northern Nigeria, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and all the service branches to rise up with voices of peace and wisdom. The ugly lessons of history are too plain to sticked with carelessness. As leaders we must observe the full measure of our powers and influence to forestall a repetition.”

Governor Umahi urged Igbo sons and daughtersresident in the nineteen Northern States to go about their lawful businesses as the Forum was in touch with security agencies to protect their interest. He explained that there was never a time South East Governors Forum mobilized vehicles and cash for the repatriation of Ndigbo living in the North as being insinuated in some quarters.

Governor Umahi said the Forum was appreciative of the Presidency, Northern Governors Forum and the leadership of Arewa Consultative Forum for quick condemnation of the threat noting that it underscored the unity and oneness of the nation.
