SOME RETIRED WORKERS IN ENUGU STATE TO RECEIVE ARREARS OF PENSION SOON

Enugu mapThe Enugu State Government says it will commence payment of arrears of pensions of retired primary school teachers and local government workers by next month. The Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Eucheria Offor stated this while addressing House committee on Finance and Appropriation who were on over sight visit to the ministry.

Addressing the committee, Mr. Offor said that the state had mapped out over three point nine billion naira for the payment of outstanding salary arrears of the local government from over nine billion naira obtained from Paris Club Fund. She explained that the state government was concerned over the plights of local government pensioners and retired primary school teachers as they were not accommodated in the first trench of the Fund.

The Commissioner promised that fund realized through direct cheque payment would be channeled to the payment of some retired school teachers. Earlier, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr. Chuka Eneh urged the ministry to do everything within its powers to address some challenges arising from pensions and gratuity.

Mr. Eneh called on the Ministry of Commence State Asset Enumeration to ascertain asset of the state government. A member of the committee who is also the House Committee Chairman on Anti-Corruption, Chief Chinedu Nwamba expressed the readiness of the committee to investigate alleged non existing workers discovered by the ministry.
