NYCN, ENUGU STATE CHAPTER CANVASS FOR PROVISION OF GRANTS FOR YOUTHS TO GO INTO AGRICULTURE.

bishop agluicanThe three tiers of government in Nigeria have been called upon to intensify efforts in empowering youths through Agriculture.

The Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, the Most Reverend Emmanuel Chukwuma made the call during an advocacy visit by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Enugu State Chapter.

Arch Bishop Chukwuma said there was an urgent need to diversify the nation’s economy.

‘’It is very necessary we go back to agriculture, we misused our opportunities after the civil war. Palm oil was noted for the Eastern Nigeria, groundnut for the North , Cocoa for the West. We left it and entered into oil because we thought it was oil boom’’.

Archbishop Chukwuma who explained that the youths were the future leaders of the country advised  that they should be given a  solid foundation.

Earlier, the President, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Enugu State Chapter,  Mr. Henry Atigwe who led the delegation, appealed for support from the Archbishop to enable them to achieve their goals.

Mr. Atigwe also called on the state government to provide the organization with grants  that will help the youths to be self reliant.

‘’Now we want to take youths back to agriculture. Most of the programmes  channeled to the youths do not get to the grassroots. I have decided with my executive that we will form a 30-man youth cooperative in agriculture in all the 260 wards in Enugu State. We are soliciting with leaders who will come to our aid by registering the youth cooperative.’’

The group presented an Excellence award to Archbishop Chukwuma on the occasion.
