FREE BUS AND TRAIN SERVICES PROVIDED FOR KADUNA- ABUJA AIR PASSENGERS.
The Federal Government has announced the provision of free bus and train services for passengers travelling between Abuja and Kaduna where Abuja-bound flights will be diverted during the six weeks that Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja will be closed for the reconstruction of the runway.
The measure which was announced at a news briefing in Abuja was to ease the sufferings of the passengers.
In attendance at the conference were the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of State for Aviation Alhaji Hadi Sirika, Representative of the Minister of Power, Works and Housing as well as the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris.
According to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris there will be adequate security, with the police deploying the air wing, the counter-terrorism and the special units to ensure the safety of the passengers.
Explaining the need to shut the airport for the reconstruction of its runway, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said it was due to the total neglect of the runway since it was built over thirty years ago.
The closure of the airport starts tomorrow.
