INCLUSION OF PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN TET FUND ADVOCATED

lecture2 (2)The Federal Government has been called upon to include Private Universities in the Tertiary Education Trust [TET] Fund.

The Vice Chancellor, Godfrey Okoye University,  Ugwuomu Nike, Enugu State, Professor Christian Anieke made the call while speaking with Newsmen on the forth coming convocation of the school in Enugu.

Professor Anieke wondered why private universities were excluded in the fund generated by the contributions of all Nigerians and the private sector in particular.

‘’The fund is meant for research, for education of our people. Many think it’s about giving money; you can finance research if somebody from private university has something sound to give. Why can’t we support it. If there is a proposal from a professor, a brilliant professor from a private university why do you need the professor to lean on somebody from a federal university to be able to have the proposal accepted.’’

The Vice Chancellor acknowledged that such fund would help universities achieve a lot especially in the area of research.

He explained that Go University was an institution that entrenched dual attributes in its students.

‘’We have so many things that make us different from others. Here, we see academic life as apprenticeship, students are exposed to different skills. It is the fastest growing private university’’.

The institution would be having its convocation on Saturday, and according to the Vice Chancellor, graduates of the institution have proved their worth wherever they were.

‘’Many say we don’t have unemployment, what we have is unemployable  Nigerian graduates. We expose our students to different skills. We are equipping them to be employable and this explains why our graduates are actually topping the list in employable graduates in the country.’’

About two hundred and eighty one students would be graduating with nine of them bagging a first class.

The convocation proper comes up at 11 am on Saturday.
