Igbo leaders have pledged their support to the restructuring of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of fairness and equity. The Chairman Southeast Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi made this known through a communiqué presented to journalists after a closed-door meeting held in Enugu State with Ohaneze Ndigbo, National Assembly members and selected Igbo leaders of thought.

Chief Umahi while calling on the Federal Government to commence the process of the dialogue to restructure the country, said that Ndigbo were in support of the report of the twenty fourteen National Conference and urged the Federal Government to set up structures for its full implementation.

Governor Umahi further announced that Ndigbo condemned all the hate speeches and conducts emanating from various quarters of the country, but pledged the support of a united Nigeria . The group according to Governor Umahi resolved on constituting an official organ to speak on behalf of Ndigbo on political matters stressing that the Southeast leaders in consultation with leaders from other parts of the country would engage the Federal Government to address concerns of Ndigbo and the nation at large.

Earlier in an address of welcome, the host Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi called for the unity of Ndigbo across the nation.The one-day interactive meeting of Southeast stakeholders in Enugu State was the first of its kind since the looming agitations and call for referendum of some regions of the country.
