DEMOCRACY DAY: 13 LGA CHAIRMEN SWORN-IN IN EBONYI STATE

ebonyi3Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has assured the people of the area of his commitment towards deepening the gains of democracy through the provision of more basic infrastructure. Governor Umahi who stated this at this year’s Democracy Day Celebration also swore in newly elected Local Government Council Chairmen and appointed 57political aides as well as seven Board members at Abakaliki Township Stadium.

The 13 Local Government Council Chairmen which include three women were sworn in along with their Vice who are all women. Governor David Umahi charged them to align themselves properly to the vision of the state government and replicate its developmental efforts at the grassroots.

He explained that the 57 aides,which included a former Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU Ebonyi State chapter, Professor Ndubisi Idenyi were not appointed for political patronage but to assist the government in the task of re positioning the State. Governor Umahi congratulated Nigerians for their firm belief in democracy and urged them not to be discouraged but support efforts by the government to provide more infrastructure in the country.

The Senator representing Ebonyi North, Senator Sam Egwu noted that the people of the state were happy over the achievements by the government in the last two years and called for more support to enable it do more. A former Minister of Culture and Tourism, Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu and Professor Celina Oko expressed happiness over the level of participatory democracy being practiced in the state and attributed it to even distribution of infrastructure.
