CADP EMPOWERS 700 WOMEN AND YOUTHS IN ENUGU STATE.

Enugu mapCommercial Agriculture has been identified as a major boost to the economy of the nation. The Enugu State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Michael Eneh stated this during the Fourteenth Commercial Agriculture Development  Project Implementation Supervision Mission in Enugu.

The Commercial Agriculture Development Project, CADP,  is a World Bank Assisted Project aimed at turning peasant farmers to commercial farmers.

The Commissioner, Mr. Mike Eneh noted that CADP had provided a source of livelihood for many unemployed persons in the State. In an opening remark, Dr. Ayodele Fashogbun of CADP  Headquarters, Abuja,  who represented the Task Team Leader stated that all the Project Survey reports must be completed  and submitted before the end of the Project.

“These are the things that are going  to speak for the project particularly from this state, when the State Coordinator, the steering committee and the Commissioner will not be there,”

Also outlining the Mission Guideline, the National Project Coordinator represented by Dr. Salisu Garba said the programme would among other things look at the challenges the project had encountered from inception to date.

“This mission was set up purposely to take stock of these achievements in the various states in various areas of project implementation.”

Earlier in an address of welcome, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Enugu State, Mr. Ogbonna Idike pointed out that the establishment of two modern hatcheries in the State was a product of Commercial Agriculture Development Project.

“We can never be tired of thanking the Project Leaders for numerous achievements of CADP in Enugu State.”

In an interview, the State Project Coordinator, Mr. Robinson Nduaguba explained that Women and Youths Empowerment programme which was the core component of CADP, had empowered  seven hundred women and youths in the State.

“This has really addressed unemployment and youth restiveness in the state.”

The Commercial Agriculture Development Project which started in 2009, will end on thirty-first of this month.
