BLACK SUNDAY AT OZUBULU, ANAMBRA STATE

IMG-20170806-WA0155Reactions have continued to trail mass shooting and killing of some worshippers at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Amawka in Ozubulu community, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Some persons have been reported killed today by gunmen while worshipping at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Ozubulu Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra State.

The identity of the attackers and their motive has not been established but security operatives are said to have swung into action to unravel the mystery behind the incident.

The state governor, Chief Willie Obiano who visited the scene of the attack to commiserate with the parishioners condemned the attack.

Governor Obiano called for calm and promised to ensure that the culprits were brought to book. Meanwhile Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Garba Baba has confirmed the attack.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has described as barbaric the attack on worshipper at St Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area. Governor Obiano stated this when he visited the scene of the attack.

He vowed to ensure that the perpetrator of the dastardly act were brought to book and assured that government was on top of the situation. The governor debunked insinuations of any invasion, saying intelligence attributed it to a feud in the community.

In the same vein, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has described the incident as a sacrilege. He noted that the day was a black Sunday, not only for Anambra State, but also the entire nation.

He said: “I received with a deep grief the news of the blood-curdling killing at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Ozubulu today. It is indeed a black Sunday and the act is most sacrilegious and condemnable.

Senator Ekweremadu condoled the Government and good people of Anambra, especially the bereaved families and the Church and pray God to grant the deceased a peaceful repose and a quick recovery for the wounded.

“However, this dastardly act brings to the fore, once again, the need to reengineer our security system, especially our policing system to arrest the rising wave of violent crimes in the country”.

Senator Ekweremadu, the least the nation owes the deceased and the casualties in the meantime was to work with the security agencies to apprehend the culprits and ensure that justice was done to both the living and the dead.

Abia State Governor, Dr. OkezieIkpeazu, has expressed sadness over the shooting of worshippers at Saint Philips Catholic Church Ozubulu in Anambra State. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. EnyinnayaAppolos, Governor Ikpeazu called on security agents to fully investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

According to Governor Ikpeazu, the nation cannot afford to have criminal elements, in whatever guise, who invade places of worship and unleash mayhem on innocent people. Dr. Ikpeazu condoled with Governor Willy Obiano and the people of Anambra State over the unfortunate incident.

He prayed God to grant the families of the victims the fortitude to bear the loss as well as the quick recovery of those who sustained injuries during the shooting.
