ANAMBRA RESIDENTS WARNED AGAINST BOYCOTTING NOV.18 ELECTION

chekwas2As preparations for the Anambra Governorship election gather momentum among Political Parties, the National Chairman of the United Progressive Party, UPP, Chief Chekwas Okorie has called on residents of the State to come out en masse to exercise their franchise in the November election.

He made the call in an Executive Chat with the Zonal Director, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Enugu National Station, Mr. Ike Okere in Enugu.

“Are you saying Anambra people should vote in the coming elctions, what’s your stand, because some associations such as IPOB are calling for a boycott of the election?” Mr Okere asked.

“It will be political suicide not to vote, if you do that you surrender your political space to the very poor opponent that you are lamenting that has made life miserable for you.” Chief Okorie said.

Chief Okorie also gave a historical background to explain the negative impact an election boycott could cause.

“Many of these young ones do not know that there had been election boycott in 1965 and that gave the space for the Northern People’s Congress and the Akintola’s party to take over the West and it was a backlash of that takeover of West that resulted in the wild West history we have in this country and they ended up with military intervention in 1966. Is a very dangerous thing to do, to boycott election, people who do not know need to be educated, that it is suicidal.”

Chief Okorie said the Party had concluded its convention aimed at referendum and re-structuring the country, if the Party wins National election in 2019.
According to him, the Party delegates to States Congresses will be designated officers, to curb cases of disagreement.

He explained that the Party allowed Ethnic Nationalities, to feel a sense of belonging in the country.
