Abia Govt expresses displeasure over sale of alcohol, others in motor parks

The Abia State Government has expressed displeasure over the sale of alcohol and other hard drugs in some motor parks in the area.

The Commissioner for Transport, Mr Nnenna Onwuka, made this known at the commencement of the 2015 Ember Month Safety Campaign for Motorists in Umuahia.

The Commissioner represented by a Director in the Ministry, Mr Boniface Oleke, said plans were under way to sanitize all motor parks in the state as well as embark on the sensitize fleet owners on various safety measures.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Abia State, Mrs Stella Uchegbu said the safety campaign was to enlighten road users on the need to ensure safety especially during the Yuletide.

Mrs Uchegbu called on the fleet operators to always ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before embarking on journeys.

The FRSC Sector Commander also enumerated some of the factors responsible for road crashes to include driving under the influence of hard drugs, over speeding and dangerous overtaking.

Highlight of the programme was a road show rally by the officials of the FRSC who matched along some major roads in Umuahia distributing flyers with inscriptions drive to safety, over speed kills, if you must drive don’t drink.
