RIGHT TO EDUCATION OF CHILDREN WITH DYSLEXIA EXAMINED

Every first week of October the United Nations Celebrate children with dyslexia.

According to the New Websters Dictionary, Dyslexia is a nervous trouble, interfering with the ability to read or comprehend what is read either in words or speech.

Dyslexia may exhibit traits and behaviours like difficulty in reading, spelling, writing, listening at grade level and this varies from day to day or minute to minute.

Dyslexia children and adult can become enthusiastic readers when given learning tools that fit their creative learning style.

These set of children easily feel frustrated and emotional about academic works but have high intelligent quotient.

However they are not good in writing and are regarded as dull students even though they could do better when given the right assistance.

Thus, the need for parents to discover this learning disorder early and tackle immediately.

Mr Miracle Meribe, an Education Consultant who once suffered from this disorder, urged parents who discover this challenge on time to get experienced tutors for the child, to ensure he would not lag behind academically.

A mother and lawyer, Mrs Chidi Obeke-Okoli advised parents and teachers to identify and encourage children who might not be as bright as the others in class, as every child is entitled to education.

The Enugu State Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eze emphasized that Enugu State takes the bull by the horn when it comes to education and directed that no teacher should discriminate, as some students might need special attention.

An Enugu based lawyer, Mr Nwabueze Ugwu stated that education was an obligation given to government in accordance with 1999 Constitution as amended and called for a law that would protect the rights of dyslexia for the benefit of the society at large.
