Alex Iwobi Gives Man Of The Match Performance Before Nigeria’s Nations Cup Qualifier

These are the best of times for Alex Iwobi in Arsenal colours as the youngster scored his first senior goal in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat of Everton at Goodison Park.

Iwobi’s goal came late in the first half after Danny Welbeck had put the Gunners ahead. The 19-year-old beat the Everton defence to score his first ever senior Arsenal goal to seal the win and earn himself the man of the match award.

The victory comes at a crucial period for the Gunners who were eliminated from the FA Cup last weekend as well as the Uefa Champions League on Wednesday.

Defeat would have seen an end to their Premier League title hopes but they looked inspired against the Toffees to take all three points.

“It is not bad, I’m enjoying the moment,” Iwobi told media after the game. “I’m just happy to help my team and that is a positive so we will take that into the next game.”

The Nigerian has enjoyed a good spell playing alongside English striker Welbeck, both of them seem to understand each other’s movement on the pitch.

“It is a dream playing with [Welbeck],” he said. “He gives me confidence, he is helping me out and gives me advice.”

Iwobi says the Gunners have tried to banish the thoughts of their recent bad spell and will continue to concentrate on winning the league.

“Even though we have had a difficult week, we are trying to put that aside and concentate on the league,” he said.

Iwobi will bring his good form to the Nigeria game against Egypt next Friday where he will face team mate Mohamed Elneny.
