Kastina United FC under 15 team beat their counterpart Kano Pillars FC 2-1 Tuesday to brightened their hopes of progressing to the next round of the ongoing NPFL/La Liga under 15 tournament holding at Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Enugu.

Umar Abubakar put Kastina United in front in 9th minute and Khalifa Aminu made it 2-0 in the 24th minute for the defending champions.

Ahmed Hassan reduced the deficit to 2-1 for Kano Pillars but it was not enough to save them from their first defeat of the competition.

Kastina United coach, Tukur Hassan, said he was not surprised his team edged Kano Pillars.

“In the last three meetings we always have the upper hand. We defeated Kano Pillars 3-0 in Kaduna, 3-0 in Abuja and now 2-1 in Enugu, so the rate is high.

“I told my boys that the match against Pillars is like a final which will define our status in the tournament.

”I pray that we win our next match against Kwara United on Wednesday to reach the next stage,“ he said.

However, Kano Pillars’ coach, Suleiman Ibrahim, said his team lost the match due to loss of concentration.

“The match was a derby and it need maximum concentration against Kastina United.

“This group is still open and competitive because we won the first game, lost today, likewise Kastina United,” he explained.

Coach Ibrahim said that the technical crew would come back with a better strategy and tactics for the last group match against Warri Wolves FC of Delta.

In the other fixtures of the day, Akwa United played out a goalless draw against Mountain of Miracles FC.

Warri Wolves were also held to a goalless draw by Kwara United while Lobi stars have crashed out of the championship following a 0-1 defeat to Heartland FC of Owerri.

The Benue based side lost their first game of the second group phase to Akwa United.
