POLITICAL LEADERS TOLD TO MAKE APPOINTMENTS BASED ON COMPETENCE AND EXPERTISE

Political Leaders have been advised to make appointments based on competence, expertise and political will to deliver on the expected goals of government.

Guests on Radio Nigeria, Enugu Zonal Programme, “Political Watch” made the submission.

One of them, the Initiator, Hope Givers Initiative, Mrs. OnyekaUdegbunam maintained that positions should be given to people where they had comparative advantage and not based on settlement.

Another guest and former Vice President, Nigeria Labour  Congress, Comrade Fidelis  Edeh said why political party gave priority to appointing people from the same party was because  they believed that such individuals would advance the policies and programmes of the party.

Comrade Edeh maintained that appointments should not be based on patronage rather advocated that the institution should be strengthened so that people would be able to decide those who would govern them.

Also contributing to the programme, the Publicity Secretary, All Progressives Congress, APC, Anambra State, Chief OkeloMadukaife, explained that political appointment should reflect federal character while every segment of the society should be considered in making appointments.

Callers in the programme advocated equity, justice and fairness in making appointments by Political Leaders.
