IT WAS POLITICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR SENATOR AYOGU TO PARTICIPATE IN THE MARCH 9 GUBER ELECTION IN ENUGU STATE – CAMPAIGN SPOKESMAN

Major political parties in Enugu State have called on the National Assembly and Judiciary to strengthen electoral laws to address some inadequacies experienced during the last elections.

Guests on “Political Watch” a Radio Nigeria Enugu Zonal Network Political programme made the call while discussing the topic “Assessing the Conduct of Governorship Election in Enugu State.”

One of them, the Deputy Spokesmen of Senator Ayogu Eze Campaign Organization, Mr. Uche Nnamani, said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Enugu State, Senator Ayogu Eze, did not participate in the last election as INEC failed to include his name in the contestants’ list not minding an Appeal court directive.

He stated that it was politically impossible for Senator Ayogu to cope with logistics to participate in the gubernatorial poll as the court affirmed him the authentic candidate of APC barely two days before the election.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Enugu State on Information, Mr. Desna Ajah, was of the opinion that there was the need to strengthen electoral laws but claimed that the APC in Enugu State was not ready for elections.

Mr. Ajah pointed out that the PDP in Enugu State worked hard for its victory.

Some callers in the programme implored INEC to improve on its operations while others appealed to the Judiciary to be transparent and firm in handling litigation associated with party candidates’ nomination to guarantee free and fair election.
