IMO LAWMAKERS CONDEMN REMOVAL OF THEIR MAJORITY LEADER

Reactions have continued to trail the removal of the member representing Ikeduru Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Dr. Uche Oguwije, as the Majority Leader of the House.

The Chief Whip of the House and representative of Ideano North Constituency, Chief Arthur Egwim, said the Speaker of the House, Chief Iheanacho Ehim, acted outside the powers by unilaterally removing the Majority Leader.

Chief Egwim condemned the development noting that the action was neither discussed at the executive session of the House nor at the plenary.

The member representing Ehime Mbano Constituency, Mr. Lawman Duruji, and his counterpart from Isu, Mrs. Ngozi Obiefule, described the action as a threat to democracy.

They urged their colleagues to remain calm as the matter would be addressed by the House.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the Speaker of the House, Chief Iheanacho Ihim, had at the end of plenary last Thursday announced the replacement of the Majority Leader with the member representing Owerri Municipal Council, Chief Lugard Osuji.
