He was reportedly murdered around 9 o’clock Thursday night at Akokwa Road in Ideato Local Government while returning from a meeting.
The slain chairman popularly known as “Ohaneze” was one of the 27 local government area APC chairmen loyal to Governor Rochas Okorocha who were inaugurated after a congress in Owerri on Monday this week.
Spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the incident to Radio Nigeria, said the remains of the slain Chairman had been deposited in a morgue.
He said though no arrest had been made so far, the Police had begun investigation to unravel those behind the dastard act.
Mr. Enwerem explained that the deceased sustained bullet injuries after he allegedly resisted attempt by assailants to abduct him from his car.
He urged members of the public not to panic as the command had taken steps to ensure that adequate security of lives and property in the state.
