A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Enugu State, Chief Dons Udeh, has described the re-election of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the victory of the people, for the sustenance of good governance in Enugu State.
Chief Dons Udeh, who was the Director-General, Enugu East Zonal Campaign Organization of the PDP, said the good works of Governor Ugwuanyi across the state made the election easy for the party to win with a wide margin.
While commending INEC for the peaceful conduct of the elections, Chief Dons Udeh urged the people to continue to support the good polices of the state government.
The State Returning Officer for the Election, Professor Josephat Ahaneku had earlier announced that Chief Ugwuanyi Polled 449,935 (four Hundred and Forty-Nine Thousand, Nine Hundred and Thirty five) Votes to defeat his closest rival, Senator Ayogu Eze of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 10,423 (ten thousand four hundred and twenty three) votes.
According to Professor Ahaneku, the Candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA Chief Emmanuel Nwankpa scored 2,547 (two thousand, Five Hundred and Forty-Seven) Votes.
The Enugu State Gubernatorial Election Returning Officer stated that a total of 470,927 (four hundred and seventy thousand, nine hundred and twenty-seven) Votes were Valid, out of 478,241 (four hundred and seventy- eight thousand, two hundred and forty one) votes cast during the Election and that 7,314 (seven thousand, three hundred and fourteen) were rejected votes.
He commended the people for conducting themselves peacefully and all the workers that assisted INEC in making the exercise hitch free.
The result of the election was announced under tight security and peaceful atmosphere.
