IMO GUBER: POLICE ARREST COLLATION AND ELECTORAL OFFICERS FOR OHAJI EGBEMA LGA FOR FRAUDULENT RESULTS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State has ordered the arrest of a collation officer for Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area, Dr. Kelechi Ezirim, over alleged complicity in electoral malpractice.

Also handed over to the police was the Electoral Officer in charge of Ohaji Egbema, Mr. Chris Ogbuadu.

The action came shortly after they presented governorship result for the area amidst protest by agents of other political parties.

Both the Returning Officer and the Electoral Officer admitted that they collated results from polling units where elections did not take place.

The Returning Officer, Mr. Ezirim, noted that he was alerted that thugs snatched electoral materials meant for some of the units but later accepted results emanating from same units.

The Returning Officer, Professor Francis Otunta, described the acts as malpractice and ordered that the duo be kept in police custody.

Correspondent Chinazo Ilechukwu reports that collation of results resumed at the INEC premises around half past ten o’clock in the morning after the incident that disrupted the exercise in the early hours of today.
