DISCORDANT TUNES AS APC HOLDS PARALLEL CONGRESS IN ENUGU STATE

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward Congress has been held in all the 206 wards in Enugu State.

The Congress was supervised by the leader of the party in the state and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama and the Special Assistant to the President on Justice Reforms, Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku Nwangwu among other APC leaders in Enugu State.

Radio Nigeria monitored the congress in many wards including Eke ward where Mr. Philip Ogechukwu Eze emerged winner.

An APC chieftain and Director General Voice of Nigeria Mr. Osita Okechukwu, who was a member of the ward, expressed delight in the large turnout of people who came to vote for Mr. Philip Eze and other ward executive member of the party.

At Obinagu Udi, all the positions contested were in affirmation as Mr. Igwe Chukwuebuka emerged the elected Chairman.

The South East Zonal Vice Chairman of the party, who is also a member of Obinagu ward, commended the peaceful conduct of the election in the state and charged the newly elected leaders to exhibit high sense of responsibility and carry every member of the party along.

Mr. Ikechukwu okafor emerged the Chairman at  Aninri ward and the Party chieftains expressed happiness over the high level of maturity excised by members during the conduct and changed the elected ward officials to render selfless service for the party’s victory in 2019.

Other stakeholders of APC who spoke with Radio Nigeria included APC local government chairman of Oji River, Mr Benson Eze who voted in his Akpugoeze ward, where Mr. Odira Chigbo merged Chairman and the APC Chairman of Nkanu West, Mr. Sunday Eze who voted in his Agbani ward where Mr. Sunday Nwobodo emerged victorious.

Other places visited included Isu/Ituku/Agbudu ward in Awgu Local Government Area, Amodu ward in Nkanu West where Mr. Maduka Aniugbo emerged Chairman, while all the positions contested in the 20 wards in Ezeagu were unopposed.

However, Radio Nigeria Correspondent reports that there were parallel congresses in some of the wards in the state.

Speaking to newsmen, after the congress, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama said that although the congress was held, it was flawed by what he described as non inclusiveness of the major party stakeholders in the state in the congress processes.

Mr. Onyeama accused the congress committee from the national body of denying access to registration materials to candidates for the congress election.

The Foreign Affairs Minister said the APC in Enugu State was poised to producing credible leaders that would represent the party effectively.

In a related development, the Minister had earlier convened a pre-congress stakeholders meeting where he called on the factions in the party to unite in order to entrench peace and progress.

Speaking at the stakeholders meeting, a former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani stressed the need for the party to elect loyal and competent people.

Other speakers at the event, including the Special Assistant to the President on Justice reforms, Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku Nwangwu, the National Vice Chairman of the party, Mr. Emma Enukwu, and an APC Chieftain Mr. Onyemuche Nnamani called for united APC in the State.

Mean while, APC local government congress will be held on Saturday
