N YSC TASKS EBONYI STATE GOVT. ON INFRASTRUCTURE DEFICIENCES IN ORIENTATION CAMP

The Director General of National Youths Service Corps, Brigadier General Suleiman Kazaure has called on Ebonyi State Government to overhaul NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Afikpo in view of its poor condition.

Brigadier General Kazaure made the call when he visited “2018 Batch A” Corps members undergoing Orientation course at the Camp.

The National Youths Service Corps Orientation Camp in Ebonyi Stated was relocated from its temporal site at Holy Child Secondary School Sharon in Izzi Local Government Area to its Permanent site at Old Macgregor College Afikpo in 2009.

Since then no major renovation work had taken place in the camp in spite of repeated calls by the management of the scheme that its access road had collapsed while many structures in the place require urgent renovation.

Brigadier General Kazaure who on arrival inspected the camp described structures in the area as highly dilapidated noting that it was the responsibility of the state governments to maintain NYSC Camps in their domain.

Brigadier General Kazaure emphasized that NYSC would not post Corps members to any part of the country experiencing insecurity and charged them to see their service year as an opportunity to contribute to national cohesion.

The State Coordinator of the Scheme, Mrs. Regina Iluebbey, called on the state government to connect the camp to national grid pointing out that corps members in the area enjoy only a 3 hour light powered by a generator in the night.

Mrs. Illuebbey said 8 corps members were sent home from the camp for either being pregnant or nursing babies while two cases of biometric failures were recorded.

Some of the Corps members expressed joy over his visit but called on the Federal Government to increase their allowances.
