BEN NWOYE EMERGES FACTIONAL APC CHAIRMAN IN ENUGU

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Enugu State have been asked to work relentlessly to support President Mohammadu Buhari’s quest for second tenure in 2019.

The Director General Voice of Nigeria Mr. Osita Okechukwu made the call during a parallel state Congress of the All Progressives Congress APC in Enugu.

The election conducted by the Dr Ben Nwonye led faction, who pulled out of the venue of the congress last Saturday due to invasion of the indoor hall of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium by a faction alleged led by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, began as early as eight o’clock on Sunday morning.

It was supervised by a delegation from the National working Committee of the party and NEC officials had Dr. Ben Nwonye re-elected as the state chairman of the party alongside 34 others with an overwhelming voice vote.

The Chairman of the State Congress committee, Pastor Charles Brown, said the election was deferred to Sunday to have a peace exercise.

He congratulated the winners for the maturity they exhibited while the crisis lasted.

Addressing a large delegates and party faithful who had converged to rejoice with the elected officers, a stakeholder in the party, Emperor Baywood Ibe, said APC was not known for violence and advised the newly elected leaders to deliver the party in 2019.

The Director General Voice of Nigeria (VON) and delegate to the congress, Mr. Osita Okechunkwu, expressed delight with the peaceful conduct of members during Sunday’s Congress and urged them to support the newly elected leaders as well as President Mohammadu Buhari.

Shortly after the voice Vote election, which saw Mrs. Oby Nwofor as the state woman leader and Mr. Chikwado Chukwunta as Deputy Vice Chairman of the party, Mr. Emma Eneukwu, who is the APC South East Zonal Chairman, charged the elected state chairman, Dr. Nwonye to reconstitute a reconciliatory committee to enable genuine repentant members to be accepted back to the folk.

Dr. Ben, who was received with jubilation at the party secretariat after the election held at Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, pledged to carry the party to a greater height.

The election which was conducted amidst tight security had Mr. Nweke Nebe as the state Legal Adviser and Mrs. Kate Offor as the Publicity Secretary while a former Governor of Gombe State, Group Captain Joe Orji, a former Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Sullivan Chime were among the delegates.
