ANGLICAN BISHOP CALLS FOR PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS TO NIGERIA’S GOVERNANCE CHALLENGES

The Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, the Right Reverend Alexander Ibezim wants political leaders to design strategies that will have positive impact on the lives of citizens.

The Right Reverend Ibezim stated this in a sermon during a Eucharistic Service to mark Nigeria’s 58th Independence Anniversary at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka.

The Bishop emphatically stated that the masses were presently passing through difficult moments and noted that only an effective approach to governance could salvage the situation.

He tasked urged Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State to make more investments in the agricultural sector and human capital development.

Addressing the congregation, Governor Obiano urged the citizens to pray for those in positions of authority to enable them offer quality service to the people.

Governor Obiano described the upcoming 2019 general election as an important one for the nation, hence the need for citizens to conduct themselves well.

He said the unity of the nation was non- negotiable and challenged all segments of the country to avoid acts capable of throwing the nation into confusion.

The Governor stressed that his administration inaugurated a Health Insurance Scheme in realization of the need to offer citizens quality Medicare at a subsidized rate.

Governor Obiano said he had no doubt that the scheme make critical contributions to addressing the health needs of the people.

The service featured prayers for the nation, praises, a special thanksgiving by Governor Obiano and government officials.

The independence service was attended by Bishop Ekwe of Anglican Diocese of Niger West, Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Peter Umeadi, the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Ebele Obiano, top government finctionaries, heads of security agencies, Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe and other traditional rulers.
