ANAMBRA GETS ACTING CHIEF JUDGE

A new Acting Chief Judge has been sworn in by Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State.

He is Justice Onochie Anyachebelu.

In a speech during the event at the Exco Chambers, Government House Awka, Governor Obiano expressed optimism that the appointment would re-position the state judicial system.

Governor Obiano while assuring the Acting Chief Judge of his administration’s support to enable the judiciary deliver on its mandate, urged him to effectively address the problems of delayed dispensation of justice in the state.

He expressed the hope that the Acting Chief Judge would bring a new lease of life to the state judiciary.

The Governor also presented Justice Anyachebelu with official vehicles, befitting his new status.

The Attorney General of the State, Dr. Uju Nworgu, emphasized that the 1999 Constitution empowered the State Governor to appoint and swear in an Acting Chief Judge when vacancy existed in the system.

Dr. Nworgu, who described the Acting Chief Judge as an erudite and principled jurist, advised him to bring his wealth of experience to transform the state judiciary.

Responding the new Acting Chief Judge, Justice Anyachebelu, promised to set records worthy of emulation and to ensure speedy dispensation of justice in the state.

He also thanked the people of the state for finding him worthy to serve.

The Governor commended the immediate past chief judge for the work rendered in ensuring that justice was given to citizens.

Until his appointment justice Onochie was the most senior judge in the judiciary sector.

Top government functionaries,traditional rulers, jugdes among others attended the event.

Recall that the former Chief Judge, Justice Ijem Onwuamaegbu, retired on September 3, 2019.
