AHEAD OF 2019 GENERAL ELECTION: UMAHI TASKS CORPS MEMBERS TO RESIST UNSCRUPULOUS POLITICIANS
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State called on National Youths Service Corps members not to betray the confidence reposed in them to assist the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conduct credible Election in 2019.
Chief Umahi made the call at the passing out parade of 2018 Batch A, Corps members deployed to the Permanent Orientation Camp, Old Macgregor College Afikpo for three weeks Orientation Course.
It was gathered that the over 2,000 Batch A corps members deployed to the state for their orientation course had in the last two weeks interacted with INEC officials on the best practices in Election process.
Governor Umahi represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Charles Akpuenika charged the corps members to resist any attempt by unscrupulous politicians to use them as a willing tool to manipulate 2019 General Election.
Chief Umahi urged them to contribute their quota to the development of the state by being committed to their primary assignment and embarking on people oriented community projects.
The State Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs. Regina Iluebbey, announced that over 90% of the corps members were posted to public secondary schools in the state.
Some of the corps members described their experiences in camp as memorable noting that NYSC had lived up to its objective of uniting young Nigerians.
They however called for reforms to enable the scheme to meet global best practices.
