YOUTH CORPS MEMBERS DRESSING INDECENTLY RISK ARREST — DG

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, wants the NYSC Trust Fund bill to be signed into law to enable the Scheme to remain stronger in the actualization of its mandate.

He stated this during a familiarization tour of NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo, Ebonyi State.

Brigadier General Ahmed, who was accompanied by other principal officers, noted that the scheme had contributed immensely to the development of the country, especially in the health, educational and agricultural sectors and called on all stakeholders to support efforts aimed at making it stronger.

He emphasized that as the NYSC celebrates its 50th anniversary, his administration was determined to reposition the scheme by ensuring that serving corps members abide by its rules and regulations, warning that henceforth any corps member found dressing in indecently would be arrested.

The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Bamia Mercy, said the operations of the scheme in Ebonyi State were faced with myriad of challenges, including non existence of functional NYSC State Governing Board and Local Government Committee, lack of operational vehicle as well as electricity supply to the camp.

She also expressed worry about non-completion of renovation work at the camp by the state government.

Mrs. Mercy, however, commended the corps members for being of good character and participating actively in the programmes put in place.
