WORK RESUMPTION: CUT DOWN ON COST TO PAY MINIMUM WAGE – WORKERS ADVISE GOVERNMENT

Enugu State Workers have been advised to compliment the State Government’s prompt payment of salaries by being diligent to duty.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Service of the State, Mr. Ken Chuwuegbo, gave the advice in an interview when our correspondent monitored resumption of work after the Good Friday and Easter Public Holidays.

Mr. Chukwuegbo also stated that the office of the Head of Service had a compliance unit with the mandate of checking workers’ attendance to work and punctuality on daily basis.

A worker interviewed, Mr. Ugochukwu Ugwuodo, who said he had enough rest during the holiday and was ready to carry on with his job, expressed the hope that the State Government would also implement the new minimum wage.

Another civil servant, Mrs. Adaeze Nnadi, said the Easter holiday afforded her the opportunity to attend to social functions and other engagements.

She enjoined state governments that were expressing fears of implementing the new minimum wage to cut cost on governance.

Other civil servants in state said the new minimum wage when implemented would spur them to more commitment to work.
