WOMEN PROTESET WANTON ARREST OF MEN INOGBOZINNE ENUGU STATE

Women from Ogbozinne Autonomous community in Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area Enugu State have cried out to the State Government to end the wanton arrest of men in the community.

The women carried placards with different inscriptions such as“Leave us alone, our husbands our children are innocent”.

They made the call during a peaceful protest at the entrance gate of Radio Nigeria Enugu.

The leader of the group, Mrs Uchenwa Okenwa alleged that after the death of the Traditional ruler, Igwe Stephen Nwatu, some members of the Igwe’s cabinet had continued to arrest innocent people in the community.

Also, another protester, Mrs Stella Okenwa said one of her relatives had not been found since he was taken away by security operatives.

Narrating her ordeal, Mrs Nkexhi Ogbodo said her husband had been hospitalized after the beating he received from some members of the Igwe’s cabinet.

The problem was said to have started on the 17th of June following the death of the Igwe.
