VICTIMS OF LAST WEEK’S WINDSTORM IN EBONYI STATE CALL FOR HELP

Last week, windstorm raked havoc in many private and public buildings in Edda Community in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The Storm which occurred in the night blew off many roofs while some Villagers escaped death by a whisker as the walls of their houses collapsed while they were inside.

Our correspondent took a trip to the affected villages to ascertain how the victims were coping with the destruction.

One of them, a ninety year old woman, Mama Nwannadighi Agha whose house collapsed as a result of the windstorm that ravage the village known as Nkelogo Eziedda had no relation taking care of  her.

She attributed her survival to God as the house was completely decimated by the windstorm.

She appeals to Philanthropists to help her rebuild her house as she temporarily stays in a nearby home.

Another victim, Mr David Ufem said the windstorm started shortly after they went to bed, noting that after his roof was blown off, the ceiling in his house caved in  on his children.

Also counting his loses, another victim, Mr Paulinus Akuma said it was the first time such disaster was befalling  the village lamenting that apart from the affected  structure, the windstorm also cut down economic trees and pulled down electric poles.

Radio Nigeria also visited Etiti Edda Technical Secondary School and Oye Nta Primary school where roofs of many classroom blocks were destroyed.

The Chairman, Afikpo South Local Government Area, Mr Eni Uduma Chima explained that the incident also affected the Council headquarters but emphasized that efforts were being made to ascertain the extent of damage for proper response.

It was observed that some of the villagers who suffered minor damages in their houses were beginning to repair the affected areas.
