VICTIMS OF FIRE DISASTER ON XMAS DAY IN UGBOEZEJI ABAKPA NIKE CRY OUT FOR HELP

Five families including three widows living at number eight Mba Street, Ugboezeji Abakpa Nike Enugu have been rendered homeless by fire, which burnt their apartment on Christmas day.

According to an eye witness, Mr. Emmanuel Mbaonu, the fire which was later put out by the Enugu State Fire Service, razed their apartment.

The son of a victim, Ifeanyi Ilohamu explained that his mother went to market only to return home to see that their apartment had been razed. He and other victims including one of the three affected widows, Mrs. Melvin Ngwu appealed to well meaning Nigerians to come to their aid.

Reacting on the development, the Head of the Enugu State Fire Service, Mr. Uche Ogbonna said prompt intervention by his men prevented the fire from further escalating and advised people to switch-off their appliances before leaving their homes.

Mr. Ogbonna maintained that the State Fire Service had been upgraded to international standard and called on the public to report any case of firebreak on time to avoid loses or casualties.

Radio Nigeria Correspondent who visited the scene of the fire outbreak reports that no life was lost in the disaster while the cause of the incident has not been ascertained at the time of filing this report.
