Ebonyi State Government has called on the State Commissioner of Police to prosecute six police officers for alleged complicity in the vandalism of a power generating set at the State Pipe Production Company Ezzamgbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
The Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Internal Security, Dr Kenneth Ugbala stated this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting in Abakaliki.
Dr Ugbala explained that the Council reached the decision after receiving a report from a committee which carried out preliminary investigation on the vandalism of the power generating set at the company.
He noted that the State Government was worried that such vandalism occurred under the watch of the police officers who had already admitted to be on duty on the twenty fifth of June when the incident occurred.
The State Head of Service, Dr Chamberlain Nwele also told newsmen that the Council resolved that Board members of the Pipe Production Company should be suspended indefinitely without salary while all adhoc staff should be sacked.
The Head of adhoc Committee which investigated the vandalism who is also the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Chief Ogodoali Nome alleged overwhelming complicity of the police officers in the incident.
Chief Nome suggested strong punitive measures for those involved in the crime to forestall a recurrence.
