UNIZIK FEMALE STUDENTS ABUSE DRUGS MORE THAN THEIR MALE COUNTERPARTS —NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says the rate of drug abuse in the institutions of higher learning is alarmingly on the increase.

The Public Relations Officer of the Agency in Anambra State, Mr. Charles Efosa, made this known while speaking with journalists in Awka.

According to him, more female undergraduates in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka are in the habit of abusing drugs than their male counterpart.

He attributed such development to the high concentration of students living in private hostels situated outside the school premises, which gave them room to do whatever they liked, including smoking of a substance known as Sisha and selling of illicit drugs.

The NDLEA Public Relations Officer said that several arrests had been made by the agency after carrying out raids in some of the hostels .

Mr. Efosa called on parents to wake up to their responsibilities by making out time to visit their wards in schools even as he harped on the need for private individuals and non governmental organizations to assist the agency in the campaign against drug abuse.

The NDLEA image maker encouraged members of the public to report anyone they observed abusing drug as the Agency would always handle such information professionally.
