Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has ordered members of the Universal Basic Education Board to forfeit their one month salary for failing to pay arrears of leave and promotion allowances to teachers in the area.

Chief Umahi said he took the decision following a series of text messages by some teachers accusing him of reneging in his promise to pay the allowances along with December salary.

The Governor who announced the forfeiture at a meeting with the Board members and some Commissioners also directed the Secretary to the State Government to query them for flouting the decision of the State Executive Council.

A Committee headed by the Commissioner for Education, Professor John Eke was set up to ensure that the teachers were paid immediately.
