TCN TO ESTABLISH A 330KV SUB- STATION IN AWKA TO ENHANCE ENERGY FLOW

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN says it has awarded a fresh contract for the Alaoji- Ihiala- Nnewi- Onitsha Transmission line.

The project is to be financed by the African Development Bank, ADB.

The Managing Director of TCN, Mr Usman Mohammed announced this in Awka during a meeting of its management with Governor Willie Obiano.

Mr Mohammed also stated that TCN had concluded arrangements to establish a 330KV Sub- station in Awka, which would help in realizing 120KV lines in Ekwulobia and Aguleri.

He lamented the construction of illegal structures on the transmission right of way and urged the Governor to create access to enhance the completion of the job in the next one year.

Mr Mohammed stressed that the project would enhance energy flow from Alaoji through Onitsha, Ikot Ekpene, Ugwuaji and Enugu to activate economic production in the area.

Governor Willie Obiano pledged to assist the TCN in creating right of way for the completion of the job.

Governor Obiano explained that the collaboration was critical to industrial growth and efforts to transform the State.

In a remark, the Chairman of the Anambra State Power Committee, Mr Chike Okonkwo said the partnership between the State and TCN would improve energy supply to critical sectors of the economy.

The State Commissioner for Power and Utilities, Mr Obi Nwankwo commended the Government for its interest in developing the energy sector.
