ROYAL FATHERS BRAINSTORM ON PROMOTING LASTING PEACE IN THE COUNTRY

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr. Boss Mustapha wants the traditional institution to complement the efforts of various governments in finding lasting solution to communal clashes and other emerging security challenges in the nation.

He gave the charge in Owerri during the opening of a South East Post-Election Peace Conference organized by National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria.

According to him, peace is essential to the development of any society, hence government is committed to protecting lives and property of citizens.

Mr. Mustapha said President Muhammadu Buhari had vowed to run an all inclusive government devoid of primordial sentiments to promote peace and foster unity among Nigerians.

The Obi of Onitsha and Chairman South East Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Alfred Achebe said royal fathers had enormous role to play in maintaining peace in the communities.

The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, Alhaji Saad Abubakar the third called for justice and equal rights to ensure enduring peace.

He said the conference was to deliberate on issues arising from the twenty nineteen elections with a view to making recommendations to the Federal Government and INEC on ways of engendering peace.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and the Chairman Imo State Council of Traditional rulers, Eze Samuel Ohiri stressed the need to engage the youths positively to discourage them from taking to crime. The event was attended by traditional rulers from the five south east states and heads of security agencies in the State.
