STAKEHOLDERS APPEALLED TO INTERVENE IN THE INCESSANT VANDALISM AT FRCN ENUGU TRANSMITTING STATION

The Inspector-General of Police and other relevant Federal Authorities have been urged to intervene in the incessant vandalism of cables at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Enugu Transmitting Station Milken Hill Ngwo.

Two in-house Unions of the Corporation, the Radio, Television, Theatre Arts Workers Union, RATTAWU and Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ made the appeal after a joint meeting in Enugu.

The Chairmen of the Unions, Comrade Chris Agu and Comrade Emeka Anyalebechi want an investigative panel to be instituted to expose the circumstances surrounding frequent cutting of the cables at the Transmitting Station in recent times.

Comrade Agu stressed that the persistent action appeared to be politically motivated.

Similarly, Comrade Anyalebechi maintained that the development if not checked, would affect the Station’s listeners in the entire South-East Zone negatively particularly as the general election approaches.

The Union leaders expressed regret that within the past four months, facilities at the Transmitting Station had been vandalized at least three times.
