SOUTH EAST GOVERNORS HAPPY OVER BUDGET PASSAGE, CALL FOR FULL IMPLEMENTATION

The South East Governors’ Forum on Sunday called on the FG to fully implement budget provisions meant for the zone. The Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu made the call while speaking at the end of the forum’s meeting in Enugu.

Ekweremadu, who spoke on behalf of the governors, said that the people of the zone would show more than a passing interest in the budget.

‘Over the past years, we have had cause to budget for the roads but they were not implemented or awarded to incompetent contractors.

‘Now we are going to monitor and ensure that very competent contractors are given the jobs,’ he said.

Ekweremadu said that the forum was happy that the budget had finally been signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

‘We commend the Federal Government and the National Assembly for reaching agreement that led to the signing of the budget.

‘We believe that the change will now begin,’ he said.

He said that the forum reviewed the attack on Nimbo community by suspected herdsmen and appluaded the state government for making sure the residents returned to their homes.

 

Governor’s in attendance were The Abia state, Okezie Ikpeazu, Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, And former Imo state Governor, Ikedi Ohakim.
