SOS: NNEWI SOUTH COMMUNITY LAMENTS DAERTH OF BASIC AMENITIES

nts of Ogbodi Amichi, in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State have decried lack of basic amenities in the town, which is adversely affecting the wellbeing of the people.

According to them, the town does not have a health facility, which forced some pregnant women to deliver by the roadside while trying to access medicare in neighboring communities.

Ogbodi is one of the towns that make up Amichi community and known for their fertile land which encourages farming.

However, despite their efforts to contribute to the food security of the state and nation at large, dearth of basic amenities including hospital, secondary school, electricity, public water supply, among others have continued to discourage them as explained by one of them Mr. Chibuike Okoli

Mr. Okoli expressed regret that in such age and time, a town like Ogbodi with its population exists without an ordinary health post, chemist or clinic to cater for the health needs of the people.

Another resident, Mrs. Chioma Obiagwu, recalled that her sister had to give birth at the middle of the road by three o’clock in the morning while on their way to neighboring village to asses Medicare.

Radio Nigeria spoke with one of the victims of the dilapidated road network in the village, Mrs. Edit Onyejime, Who narrated that she once put to bed on the road because her husband could not drive his motorcycle through the death traps at about two o’clock in the morning.

The non availability of any health facility in Ogbodi also worries a member of the community, Mr. Eberechukwu Obiagwu, who expressed regret that women and children including aged ones were the most hit in terms of getting medical attention

Contributing, another farmer, Chief Wilfred Ezemaduekwe, expressed worry that lack of access road to the area caused agricultural produce to perish because people could not come in to buy them off.
