ANCHOR BORROWERS PROGRAMME: OVER 300 IMO RICE FARMING GET SEEDLINGS, CHEMICALS

More than three hundred rice farmers in Imo State have benefitted from the input distribution of seedlings and chemicals by the Federal Government under the Anchor Borrowers Programme of the Central Bank (CBN).

At the distribution of the inputs in Onicha-Uboma Community, Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of the State, the Vice Chairman, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, Imo State Chapter, Mr. Chibuzo Nwankwo, said the intervention would help to increase their yield.

He commended the Federal Government for supporting agriculture, noting that rice farming had provided employment to many youths in the state.

Mr. Nwankwo explained that the Anchor Borrowers Programme would help the country achieve food sufficiency and check loses often incurred by farmers.

Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke with Radio Nigeria, lauded the efforts of the government and leadership of the farmers association for availing them with high yielding seedlings.

They pledged to utilize the inputs and called for provision of irrigation facilities to alleviate their sufferings.
